Units of Competency:
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:
- RIIWHS201E: Work safely and follow WHS policies and work procedures
- RIICOM201E: Communicate in the workplace
- RIIWHS205E: Control traffic with a stop/slow bat
- RIIWHS206: Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary signs
Entry Requirements:
To enroll in this course, participants must:
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Provide original ID documents, adding up to at least 100 points, per SafeWork NSW’s ID Points Guide
- Demonstrate the physical ability to lift and place traffic control devices
- Have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI); you can create your USI here.
Training and Assessment:
The training is divided into two components:
- Classroom-Based Learning (1 Day):
- Includes theory-based learning with classroom activities, videos, and group discussions.
- Learn to use full-scale traffic control devices and manage live traffic scenarios.
- Live Practical Assessment (Half Day):
- Includes real-world traffic control simulations, working with vehicles in a safe environment.
- Practical applications are observed and assessed by SafeWork NSW-approved trainers.
Assessments include:
- Theory questionnaires and group discussions
- On-the-job practical assessments at live traffic sites on a minimum of two separate occasions
Certification:
After completing the training and assessments, you will be issued a Statement of Completion (SOC), valid for 90 days. During this period, you must complete an additional practical assessment to qualify for the SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training (TCWT) Card.
Once you have successfully completed all components, you will receive a SafeWork NSW TCWT Card, which may take up to four weeks to arrive. If you do not receive your card, contact SafeWork NSW on 13 10 50.
Attendance:
- Duration: 1 day of classroom training (8 hours) + half-day practical assessment (4 hours)
- Arrive on Time: Participants should arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled time to complete enrolment.
- Dress Code: Wear steel-toe boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, and a high-visibility vest. A hat is recommended for outdoor practical training.
